Worst ever show from J.J Henry at The TPC River Highlands
J.J Henry could not have a poorer start to the tournament that he loves playing. The 2006 champion shot a 73 to finish the first round at the Travelers Championship.
Back in 2006, when Henry won at the TPC River Highlands, the championship was known as Buick Championship. It was Henry’s fourteenth appearance at this very golf course and to shoot his worst ever 3-over par is really disappointing.
It was Henry’s worst ever score at the TPC River Highlands and he could only describe his performance as pathetic.
“Today was the worst I could have possibly shot,” said Henry after the first round.
Henry had a full week off before coming to the championship and was feeling very excited about playing at the TPC River Highlands.
He hit nine greens upfront but could not manage to convert them into birdies. Henry did not give a decent chance to make those birdies, as his ball on the green was very far from the pin.
On the 12th hole, Henry missed a 13-foot putt and on the 13th, he missed a 40-foot putt for an eagle. He made it to greens easily but it was the putting that took him down in the end. He was striking the ball nicely throughout.
Henry summed up his day’s performance like this, “I just could not get it close enough and get it going. Actually I have been putting pretty well, for whatever reason they did not want to go in today”.
Henry did not like the placement of some pins at a few holes. He said that he had never seen such pin placement in the last fifteen years.
However, he was still hopeful of making a strong comeback in the next round. Surely, if he makes those putts tomorrow, he will be having a decent chance of making it to the next rounds, which will be played on the weekend.
Regarding he not making those important birdies, he said, “Maybe I am saving them (birdies) all for tomorrow”.
He said that if he goes out tomorrow and makes those birdies, then he stands a decent chance of making to the next two rounds.
