  1. I never liked the name Go For Gin, even though I know it's based on the game gin rummy rather than having anything to do with gin the drink.

Some years back, there was a horse by Crusader Sword named Isitingood.  The name was supposed to be the punch-line for a dirty joke the owner was fond of telling.

There was a stakes filly a few years back by the name of Bodacious Ta-tas, which I think is about the limit of what The Jockey Club will allow in risque names.  I never liked that name.

I'm not terribly thrilled with Coolmore using names of historical figures like George Washington and Yeats and Galileo for some of their horses, because I think that's a little presumptious of them.

The Green Monkey is named for a golf course in the Bahamas that his ownership connections were involved in developing.  I agree that it's an awful name for a racehorse, but I guess they figure that for $16 million, they may as well get some advertising mileage out of it.

Another name that I always found kind of cringe-worthy was Preakness winner Codex.  The name isn't bad-- a codex is a manuscript document, typically a classic of some kind-- but your average racegoer isn't into classic literature and I cannot begin to tell you how many people at the time confused "Codex" with "Cotex" and wondered why on earth anyone would name a racehorse after a tampon.  ARghhhhh!

  2. that is just retarded

  3. Rey joy

  4. I agree it's a bad name, but personally I think the worst name is Son Of Greek Myth.  He is out of Greek Myth and I hate unoriginal names, why bother owning a horse if you're not gonna put any thought into naming it?

You should try pronouncing some of the foreign language names we have over here!  There are plenty of Arabic names and a lot of Gaelic Irish too.  A real tongue twister was VENTIQUATTROFOGLI who was a decent horse back in the mid-90s, but I actually like the name.

  5. Worse name-Scat Daddy.

    Good horse though.

    Best horse - Secretariat.Nuff said.Good luck.

  6. You're right about that one. Bad name for a multi-million dollar bust of a horse! Good horses deserve good names, though, don't you agree?

  7. not half as horrible as what they paid for him...unbelieveable...now on the other hand one of the coolest names Ive ever seen on a horse that I played was Precisionist... a great handicap horse who ran in the early 80s...

  8. With all the names of horse there are probably many bad ones.  I actually bet on Bodacious Ta Tas.  I heard one track announcer talk about the worst names to call out during a race and my favorite that got by the Jockey Club was Cunning Stunt.  Think about it.

  9. Thats a horrible name!

  10. So far I haven't come across any names like that as such, but have come across some nice names from the royal ascot races(checked the web for the info.)

  11. Worst name for a thorobred horse has to be "Harass"... Can you hear the announcer saying 5 minutes to the post..."your attention please, in this the 5th race, scratch #7 "Harass"..."Harass has been scratched"...maybe not the worst name , but it is funny!!...

  12. Lagnaf  -  Held a track record at Turfway for quite some time. Not sure if the record still exists. I happened to know the breeder/owner at the time, and, yes it stands for what you think it does. Let's All Get Naked and F

  13. Ack Ack is the worst name I have ever heard. He was a very good race horse named after the sound anti-aircraft guns made. Though if you ask me, Panty Raid is a little embarrassing!

  14. I agree although the name was chosen for its significance for the owners.  He will be finally running soon....should be interesting.

  15. Th e worst name I've heard was Liquor Wrecked Em, say it   real fast . It slipped through the Jockey Club . But the day the horse was supposed to race he got scratched 10 min. beforehand because of it. They had to rename him.
