Worst summer transfer window deals of the past decade – Spanish Primera Division (Part 1)
The Spanish league is one of the two best players in world football today. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ronaldo-c31734 was bought by Madrid in the summer transfer window
of 2009, they paid Manchester United a world record 80 million pounds to secure the Portuguese winger’s services. On the other hand, Barcelona trained Lionel Messi through their youth academy. Spanish league just like any other league has had its fair share
of transfer flops over the past few years so let’s take a look at some of them...
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Zlatan-Ibrahimovic-c38029
The Swedish striker rose to fame during his time with Juventus where he formed a formidable partnership with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Del-Piero-c4726 for the Bianconeri. After Juventus were relegation due to a match fixing scandal in Serie A, Zlatan
made his way to Inter Milan where he won the Scudetto after winning it with Juventus in the preceding year. Under Jose Mourinho, Zlatan was seen as surplus to requirements therefore he was conveniently dished off to Barcelona who foolishly agreed to pay €69
million for Serie A’s top goal scorer.
Barcelona also parted ways with their star striker Samuel Eto in the process as Pep Guardiola was happy to put his faith in his new summer transfer window signing. However this faith appeared to be misplaced. Zlatan failed to impress
for Barcelona in the 2009-2010 season. He was blamed for Barcelona’s failure to progress to the final of the UEFA Champions League as Jose Mourinho’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan stifled them and frustrated them in the first leg at San Siro and then in the second leg at Camp
Nou.
Ibrahimovic was seen as his team’s plan B at Camp Nou. The Swedish forward’s muscular frame was seen as Pep Guardiola’s go to “thing” whenever his team’s collective wisdom in the shape of tiki-taka football failed. After just a
single season with Barcelona, the €69 million flop was shipped away to A.C Milan on a loan deal and now this deal has become permanent with the Rossoneri paying a €24 million transfer fee to Barcelona. This means that without calculating the wages and other
expenses, the Catalan giants incurred a €45 million loss on the Swedish striker, a financial blow which is a heavy one for a club which is in debt at the moment.
Javier Arizmendi
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 were a club in heavy debt and to some extent they still are a club in heavy debt, but in 2007 they made a fatal mistake of splashing €12 million on Javier Arizmendi, a striker who had failed to impress at some of his previous
clubs. The Spanish striker failed to live up to his price tag for Valencia as the spot light was gathered up by the much more talented http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Villa-c10629. Playing alongside Villa, Arizmendi was a major flop.
His only goal of the season came against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-Zaragoza-c40344 who were playing in the Segunda Division back then. Zaragoza paid just 4 million Euros
for the Spanish target man which means that Valencia incurred a net loss of 8 million Euros on Javier Arizmendi’s adventure at the Mestalla stadium.
