I bought a Panasonic Lumix FZ8 last year, it has a lovely big Leica lens, 12x OPTICAL zoom, which is so much more important than digital, has a "simple" mode and loads of more advanced ones.  It has great life from the rechargeable battery, uses SD cards, has a good sized screen on the back, and takes long mini-movies in good quality.  You can get one for about 150 pounds on ebay now, and they are a great deal at that price.

        Thoroughly recommended!

The all time winner bargain compact digital camera is the Canon 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD1000 [not the IS] 7.1  with an added  2- gig memory card which when set in the manual mode for "Vivid" colors and videos at 30 fps in 320 dpi format provides killer images and videos.  It currently sells for $160 at Sears:

  3. i found the Fujifilm  A 900  at abt 150 USD in India on a website which was offering discounts

    To this day i cant beleive my Luck  !   It is everything i wished for and more

    so try sum online shopping sites of ur area
