  1. my cousin had it,... she learned slowly, but did learn! she was very hyper all the time! , she had alot of surgery done to her but she passed away when she was 6...

  2. i have asburger syndrome a type of down syndrome and i work better with a daily schedule and i cant control myself.

  3. what????

  4. let's see....I always have to laugh when people say they are the sweetest kids.  I have a little boy who is 4 1/2 yrs old with down syndrome....he is sweet and can be very lovable (when he wants to) but he is also stubborn, opinionated and can be quite mischievious and the most outgoing kid I know...lol

to me he is just like any other kid....he has DS, big deal...he learns, laughs, loves, plays and has friends just like any "typical" kid his age.  I see a little boy who loves his dog, plays with matchbox cars and loves music...I have hopes and dreams for his future and one day, when he is an adult, he will make a bigger impact on the world around him. I don't see him as my son with down syndrome...I see my son....

  5. Honestly all of the children I have met with downs syndrome are the sweetest most adorable kids. They have problems just like other children but they are amazing and lighthearted and so sweet.

  6. It affects all races equally.  Older mothers are more likely to have a downs child than younger mothers.  Downs occurs in varying degrees of severity...  some individuals are completely helpless, others can live on their own and manage fine by themselves.  They usually have difficulty understanding money.  People with downs tend to not live as long as others... they rarely make it beyond middle age.  They are often overweight.  Due to increased pre-natal testing and technology, there are much fewer young people with downs these days because most of them are aborted.  People with downs tend to be happy individuals - depression is rare.

  7. Not a lot. But I understand that it is a genetic condition linked to chromosome abnormality

causing varying degrees of learning disability and physical impairment.

I know of people with this syndrome and they lead fairly enjoyable lives with help and support from their families and community.

  8. Ive never met anyone with Downs Syndrome, so I know absolutely nothing! What I mean by that is that I think it is still a pretty taboo subject that never gets publicised and so people make snap judgements on the condition which I imagine are usually wrong

  9. My son has aspergers' syndrome and it's not a type of downs syndrome, there are no types. Aspergers' is from the autism spectrum disorders. I have 2 cousins with different degrees of downs'. David has a good job, his own home and plenty of friends. Sharon needs more care but she is now in a lovely shared care house with 2 other downs' girls and a permanent carer. She still lives a full life and has lots of friend, but cannot hold down a job and she needs assistance with cooking meals and paying bills. Hope this helps.
