I studied Philosophy at university and the simple answer is because we live,because we are. A woman who had great sadness and joy once said,"Every moment one lives is different than the other.The good,the bad,the hardship,the joy,the tragedy,love and happiness are all interwoven into one single indescribable whole that is called LIFE.You cannot separate the good from the bad.And perhaps there is no need to do so,either."

To enjoy life while it lasts.  Is there nothing in life that gives you pleasure?  If not, then you should find something.  The world is a beautiful and interesting place, and the point of living is to enjoy it while you are here.  and hopefully to make life a bit more pleasant for others, people who like you, children, family, friends etc.  Life is for living.  We die to make room for the next people, so that they can have their turn of enjoying the world.

your assuming there needs to be a "point"  the idea of a "point" to life is something us living creatures invented.   I don't think it really needs to be your concern as to what the point is or why there is a lack of a point.  I think it better that there is no point.  Mainly because this gives us the freedom do come up with our own reasons for living.

If we assume there is a God and we obey His commandments, and then die and find out there is, we're in good shape! If there is no God, we haven't lost anything.

I assume this is a question of a person whose life seems to devastate them (or perhaps you just have you existential thoughts).

Alrighty: I don't want this to sound so typically, but you live just to experience all the good (and unfortunately sometimes also these bad) things that may happen during your lifetime. One of these things could ve, for instance love (and this comes from me, a person who is experiencing this feeling for the first time in my life and finds it incredibly wonderful).

If you want any biological or logical answer for this question, you won't get it then because there is no logical purpose of life (this is just an opinion of an atheist who does not believe in going to heaven after living yours here)
