Question:

Would 2 AP courses in senior year be enough for selective colleges?

My school only offers AP courses in senior year. Is there any point in taking the AP courses- would selective colleges still look at them even though I took them in 12th grade? My current GPA is 4.0 and I am a junior. I am currently taking some honor courses and am wondering if all of this will be enough for my college ap.

  1. -- Absolutely! In fact, colleges--especially very selective ones that look mostly at your junior year course load--DO look at your senior year course load.

-- Don't worry whether your college of choice will know that your school ONLY offers AP courses to seniors, whereas other high schools offer those AP classes to younger class-men: the college will know your predicament, b.c. your high school will send their highschool profile.

-- I am attending an Ivy League university, and I had only taken 3 AP classes during high school. In terms of taking an AP course your senior year, what would really stand out is taking an AP class in AT LEAST 3 different fields: i.e., Science or Math ( a very strong one would be AP Chemistry or Calculus or Physics); Language or Literature ( either AP Latin/Virgil, French, Spanish, etc. -- Note: Don't take both Lang and Lit. AP for the same language, you will only get one college credit, that being your language class); and History/Govt (such as AP Civics, etc.).

-- Since your school offers these AP Courses ONLY for seniors, selective colleges would assume that you, the student, will take advantage of this by making these your 'electives'.

-- If your school follows a 7 period day, then take 3-4 AP courses. If it follows a 4 period day, take all AP's, in my opinion. The reason why I'm not telling you to immediately take ALL AP's is that your senior year is important, but your courses and grades made in your junior year far outweigh your senior year's. So, with that being said, if you took the strongest course load offered to a junior at your school and made A's in your hnrs courses (b/c number grades won't be seen by admission officers) then you will be fine. Your GPA is great, and your ACT and/or SAT and PSAT scores should be in the 95% if you are considering a selective school (i.e. Pamona, UVA, etc.). Those are the key, NOT how many AP classes you take.

-- The AP classes will only prepare you for an AP test in May so that you can test out of those courses in colleges. BUT, check your college requirements. In some colleges, you just need a 1 History requirement for graduation. If you take and pass the AP test in History, then you can focus on taking more courses that fit your given major. So, that's why in certain cases, depending on your college, you shouldn't take two AP courses of the same subject in high school, ONLY unless you are sure you want to major in it.

Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

  2. I think you should take as many as you can stand.  In addition, you should look into taking some AP exams even though you won't take the class.  For example, I read that some people buy the Barron's study guide for AP Human Geography and pass without taking the class.  That would really look good.

  3. AP Courses are recommed. but since I don't know wut selective college is to u, so I assume like University of (Your State), and (Your State) State Colleges, Take them and Pass the AP class of 4 or 5 then when you go to college, your GE (General Education Requirements, All college freshmans NEEDS this) The classes you took (like AP Chem, or AP European History, or Etc. and pass with 4 or 5, u get credit and filled the requirement....and go to a higher class in college when you start

2 AP courses are good but depends if you can handle it?

but besides AP Courses, if you did so good on your ACT/SATs and 4.0 GPA and ExtraCuirricular then you are good for college

and College will Look at your Senior Year Courses (Vigoriously)

and I know..Im gunna be a Senior this year...

  4. it wud b a good idea, becuz even if ur college doesnt see them, you will do much better in college and in life in general (cuz thats wat they are really meant for), and plus colleges look at wat classes you took that your school offered, so if they didnt offer ap earlier than senior year, they will see that, dont sweat, just do it
