Would 2008 be the the year that the AFL umpires are at their lowest ever level?

Never a match goes by without it being regularly spoilt by poor umpiring decisions & umpires with such big egos that they want to take centre stage all the time.

They report players willy-nilly & then have the charges withdrawn before they reach tribunal - Jonathan Brown, for charging last week, for instance. These umpires have no experience in playing the game & are regulary sucked in by the ever increasing staging for free kicks & diving by the players.

Even Sam Newman has had enough - & that's saying something!

  1. Yes. I agree.

This year, so far, would have to be the worst ever for bad umpiring decisions.

Look at the incident in the Crows/Carlton game -  Johncock staged for a freekick & went down as though shot. As a result Pfeiffer was reported for head high contact.

Replays showed there was absolutely nothing in the incident. It will get pulled & wont even go to the tribunal. Johncock has no shame - & the umpire involved has no knowledge of the game. He was conned by Johncock & showed that he was not up to the task of umpiring such a game.

  2. Yes.

2008 would have to be the worst ever. And that is sure saying something. They all run around in fancy coloured outfits thinking everyone has gone to the game to watch them !

  3. it is hard  as an umpire they don't have the same view as people  sitting in front of their TV.

although i do agree some decisions are pore

  4. There's no doubt about it the umpires are getting worse and worse as the years go by. Some of their decisions are unbelievable and more times than not they favour the Victorian sides, making it harder and harder for the interstate teams.

  5. I think your question is answered when a winning coach says that his team lost despite being awarded the win (Mark Thompson, Freo v Gee).

I recommend that you take a good look at just how many close games the umpires make weird decisions in during the dying minutes.

I believe that umpires and timekeepers have been "influenced" to "alter" ther outcome of matches and I believe that this is for the benefit for the AFL to make bigger proceeds from tab sportsbet. The AFL recieve a percentage of sportsbet profits and we all know that if the favourites win, tab are paying out smaller dividends to betters which means more profit to tab and the afl!

Umpires are no longer there to "officiate the game", these days they are there to "determine the winner"!

  6. All the umpires are stupid. they need to bring in new umpires, ones that arent stupid.

  7. Some decisions are decent, some are aweful and some are the best.

It ultimately depends which team you go for, If you support one team, you'll only point out frees that should be awarded to your team.
