Since Jesus was whipped and drug the cross around he lost alot of blood and was exhausted. Back then with no medical treatment wouldnt he had already died before the cross?

Since he did make it to the cross with him being so stressed and worn out and loss of blood its amazing that he would have lasted that long on the cross?

  1. The romans were expert at torturing and crucifying people.  They did it all the time.  They knew exactly how much punishment they could dish out without killing someone.

  2. Yes it is amazing that He survived all that torture so that He could die on the Cross for our Salvation, but then, He's God, so, He can do anything He wants.  God Bless you.

  3. Such is the blessing of the Christian god, does all in his power to make sure you live in torment, past exhaustion.

  4. I'm sure He was pretty beat up by the time he was hung on the cross, but the scriptures tell us that he was given vinegar, he spoke to the thieves next to him, he prayed to our Father in Heaven, etc... so it seems he was still alive until He "gave up the ghost."

  5. the point of torture is to not kill the person right away.  the romans were nothing if not efficient at torture.

  6. to fulfill prophecy...

    from John 19:28-37

    The Death of Jesus

28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” 29 A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

    Jesus' Side Is Pierced

31 Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. 32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. 34 But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and water. 35 He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—that you also may believe. 36 For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” 37 And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.”

  7. Such is the 'miracle' of God.

What they left out of the Bible was, "And from the Heavens cameth a loud boom, and God said, 'FINISH HIM'".

  8. The advantage of modern health care is an increased ability to preserve human life ; the downside is a weakening of the human genome ; our ancestors could withstand greater physical challenges than us. Among that population of strong men, Our Lord stood out as an exceptional human being: the Man-God ; He fasted for 40 days, He did not sleep very often ; people who merely touched His body were healed. So who is to state what His physical limits really were ? As a matter of fact, His Passion began long before the Cross; privations, mortifications, incomprehensions, denials, persecutions, mockeries, rejections, betrayals, condemnations, exposure to the elements, relentless work and travel ; things just got more intense during the actual Passion but the entire life of Christ was paved with sufferings ; along those lines, the early Christians thought of Christmas as the first Easter because in order to take flesh the Word of God (Logos) had to empty Himself of His Divine Glory (Kenosis) and be “buried” in His first tomb: The Womb of The Virgin Mary. We view the Birth of our Lord as a Joyful event and for us it is ; but we no longer think of the tremendous sacrifice God had to make so that event would come to pass. What Jesus endured for us during His journey on earth is beyond our imagination, certainly beyond our current abilities and definitely beyond modern medical science.

  9. No Romans were great at torture,F.Y.I. when Jesus was getting to weak the Romans had Simon of Cyrene carry the cross they would not let Jesus or any one die quickly.

  10. He did suffer and die on the cross for our sins.  And even though it breaks my heart to think about what He went through on my behalf - I am so grateful that He did!  Thank you Jesus!

  11. I'd think it amazing that he died so quickly. Very few crucified people died after only hours - most took days and some even took weeks.

  12. The fact is that the ancient people were a lot tougher than we are. They had to be, since basic survival depended on it. They did not have anything that we would call convenient. A lot of people were executed that way, and it was commonly known that they died of suffocation due to their diaphragm being pressured by their slouching bodies over time. They didn't typically die from all the preliminaries. This is why they would go around after a certain time and break the legs of those who had not died yet, so that they couldn't hold themselves up to breathe. I doubt a modern man would ever make it to the hill.

  13. Dude...in a fairytale anything can happen against the odds.

Remember man, Harry Potter survived the killing curse twice.

  14. Ask any prisoner of war. The human body can endure a lot in an effort to keep going.

  15. No

It depends on how deep the wounds were and how fast the blood loss.

He did lose blood and was bleeding.

  16. You either believe in him, or you dont.

  17. i thought he was only on the cross for 3 hours, then he said "it is finished" or something like that.....

  18. Well he had been a carpenter so he would have started out in good shape but if you really are interested in the answer check out "Evidence that demands a Verdict" by Josh McDowell he provides all the expert opinions in one chapter on that very issue.
