Would AT&T unlock this phone for me?

My family has been on a family plan for about 4 years, and the very first phone I got used the older AT&T sim cards, then they switched to Cingular sim cards, and then back to AT&T. We got our phones updated, and sim cards updated, so now the phone won't work with my new sim card.

Would they unlock it for me?

They might.  Contact Customer Support and ask them.  [Without knowing the details of your phone, it seems impossible to answer for sure.]  A while back I contacted them and asked them for the unlock code for our phones, and they provided it to us FREE OF CHARGE.  Go AT&T!  [First time I've ever been excited about a cell phone company....]
