Question:

Would Apple know if I dropped my iPhone?

So I dropped my iPhone 3G from about 1 1/2 feet off the ground, on to hardwood (not pavement). The microphone on it is now broken but the iPhone itself is not scuffed at all. I cannot open the phone up to see any physical hardware damage but do you think Apple will know it's physical damage?

  1. There's nothing else you can do but take it to Apple's service centre. Now, if they smell it you have to pay for the fix but you might as well full them.

  2. Yes.

Your iPhone ( as is almost all apple hardware ) is loaded with accelerometers.  Will they check?  Probably not if your phone looks to be in good shape.  They will assume a cold solder and replace IAW the warranty.  Honestly, if there is no damage and the microphone broke, it probably was a poor solder job and should be replaced.

Just hope the water mark paper inside is still white.

    Good luck.

PS  Grab a good gel case for $20 bucks or so.  I've dropped my phone downstairs and kicked it into the street ( two separate occasions ) and haven't had a problem.

  3. nah, i dropped my iphone and the top half froze...and they didnt hesitate to give me a new one.

  4. As long as it's still under warranty you should get anothe one may'be.
