Would Astro turf be okay for a backyard?

My husband wants to put astro turf in our backyard....yay or nay? I don't really know much about it but would it be okay?

I think Astro-Turf looks so cheesy.  Sure, it stays green but it does "wonders" to little kids' knees when they rub up against it.  And where would the dog pee?!

It was recently discovered that a lot of astro turf in the area had dangerous levels of lead in it.  It's not worth taking the chance.  Plus grass provides a softer place for people to be on.  It is also better for the environment because it gets rid of CO2
