Question:

Would Calgary be a good fit for Maas?

I ask this because it's obvious he won't stick around long in Montreal, and the Stamps could use a reliable back-up to Burris. The only other place I could see him going is Winnpeg, again as a back-up. I think his days as a starter are over. What does everyone else think?

  1. I watched him for a couple of painful years here in Hamilton, and he did not show that he was a starter,

The whole mess, was not his fault, but as QB, you get blamed.

I would like to see him back in Edmonton, as backup to Ray, they would be a good tandem once again.

  2. You really can't judge him by what went on in Hamilton.  He is a great backup and we know he has the tools, what seems to be missing right now is the confidence, but then anyone who plays in Hamilton gets depressed.

  3. maas sux

    so does his brother chris.

  4. As a Stamps fan, my answer is a resounding no.  The Calgary offense of late has been built around mobile quarterbacks, (Marcus Crandell, Henry Burris, Akili Smith) and Maas doesn't fit the bill in that department.

Really, I think that Maas is the CFL's version of Rob Johnson: a guy who was great as a backup, but awful as a starter.  He did have one good year with Edmonton when Ray was down south, but since the trade to Hamilton, he's been the worst starting quarterback in the league.  He can say he's been playing hurt the last two years, but I don't buy it.  This is a guy who backed up Smith and Joey Harrington at Oregon, so he wasn't even a starter in college.

I do think it's interesting that Montreal has picked up both Maas and Mike McMahon in the past week.  There's obviously gonna be an odd man out in Montreal, especially when Calvillo gets back.  But personally, I feel that Marcus Brady, or even Eric Crouch, who was recently released by the Argos, would be a better fit in Calgary than Maas.  His best bet would probably be to return to Edmonton, where they don't have any proven backups if Ray goes down.  I wonder how he'd feel about that situation...

  5. hes already gone to Montreal, whats with this mute point?

Maas was never a good starting qb, hes good off the bench.
