Question:

Would Christianity benefit by splitting the Bible into two books, one historical and one ethical?

A lot of the problems that atheists and non-Christians have with Christianity has to do with the Bible. There are some crazy things in the Bible which defy all reason, and some contradictions to boot.

Do you feel that Christianity would benefit from having a separate book for the historical portion of the Bible, and a book for ethics and morals? Would it be more credible for the historical book to be presented as an earthly work, and the ethical book presented as being written (or inspired) by God?

Either way you answer, if this were to happen, which rules would you keep in the ethics and morals book? Rules that would probably be consigned to the historical book might include killing people for wearing clothing of mixed fibers, killing people for eating forbidden foods, and anything relating to the branding or beating of slaves. Which rules would you keep, and which ones would you list as historical?

I'd like to hear from Christians and non-Christians.

  1. Excuse me, but there is no historical evidence for anything in the bible.

  2. Rev 22:19    And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

  3. They should split it into the wizard of Bethlehem and Moses in wonderland.

  4. You can not go wrong with the Words of Jesus.

Jesus taught to love even your enemies

    Jesus taught to forgive everyone

Jesus taught to judge no one

Jesus taught to live a life of helping people not hurting them

Take a little time and see what Jesus did in these Bible verses

    Philippians 2

6Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained,

7But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being.

8And after He had appeared in human form, He abased and humbled Himself [still further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of death, even the death of the cross!

9Therefore [because He stooped so low] God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name,

10That in (at) the name of Jesus every knee should (must) bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

        11And every tongue

frankly and openly confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  5. You should read the Bible first because your information is wrong.

  6. No.  It wouldn't be complete or the Bible if it was split.  It all harmonizes and helps explain things.

"Killing people who wear clothing mixed with fibers" and so forth?  Please tell me where in the Bible it says that, the exact book an verse as I would like to see that!  Back up what you say by stating where in the Bible it says that or it is just here say or made up by you or someone else.
