I got a ticket in my new used car. (its my homeless cousins car) So I didnt have the registration or insurance papers. But I know there was insurance. How do I get these papers. Would DMV have copies of them since they need them for the car anyway?

I just want to pay the ticket but i cant with out proof of insurance for that date. That date was before we did the title transfer. So I didnt own the car at that time. Thats why I need this stuff. I have insurance for my old car which im gonna get switched over today, but I need the proof for insurance and registration for last time. It was mid march.

  1. Your city or county transportation office should have your registration on file.  Your insurance company will have proof of insurance on file.  This is why you shouldn't drive other peoples' cars.  Too many times I have seen people get screwed over because their friend doesn't have insurance or registration.

  2. call the insurance company and not the dmv. dmv can only provide you a copy of your car registration. and talk to your insurance agent, most likely the car transfer has at least  30 days grace period.

  3. you can go to dmv.org and order the papers there. or you can go personally and order them at your local dmv. it will take about a week to get your papers, and depending on the state you might have to pay a  small fee.
