Would/Does Yahoo Groups allow a KKK group?

Question

I am certainly not a member of the KKK - they hate g*y people almost as much as they hate blacks.

I was asking to see if they didn't allow that when they allow a group whose sole purpose is anti-semitism.

Before anyone freaks out, let me say that I am completely disgusted by hate groups such as KKK (and I really don't like the KKK), but I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to have a group. Of course, yahoo has the right to determine what is appropriate for the groups they host and what isn't. But there are groups for all sorts of things and I'm sure many of them are just as asinine as the KKK.

I certainly agree that if such a group (or any group) is using the group for illegal activities then it should not be permitted to continue. Hating people because they are different from you is stupid, but legal. Acting on that hate is almost always illegal. Trust me, the kkk would hate me too - I have a mixed race child. I think racism is a terrible thing. I just think that unless they are using the group for illegal means they have the right to get together and talk about whatever it is they talk about.

If they do, then shame on them. To allow such a group is to encourage and in a sense endorse the racist beliefs of the KKK.

This is an excerpt from Yahoo's general terms of service that you agree to when making a yahoo account:

"You agree to not use the Service to:

I think that technically, there could be a KKK group, but if they used to group to talk about things that were "unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable," than it would be against the Yahoo rules.  So, there could be a KKK group that talked about baseball, and arranged baseball games (for example), and noone would really be able to stop them from talking about horrid things while playing baseball, but if they used the group to organize or talk about unlawful acts outright, that would be an infringement.  

Passenger: Are you saying that discriminating against discriminatory groups is not right? Any group that is just as asinine as the KKK is also illegal according to Yahoo guidelines.  Racism (as an act) is illegal, and not just on yahoo, so I am glad that Yahoo has those rules.  

Booger: Racism and hate are not freedom of speech, they are ILLEGAL. However, Yahoo relies greatly on users acting as reporters to enforce the rules, so things like KKK groups slip through the cracks.

They most certainly should not, as it would be an insult to blacks, g**s, Jews, everyone, and is encouraging unacceptable behavior on this site and in society

Passenger - I understand what you are saying about right of opinion and freedom of speech, but surely those rights should be wavered if it means permitting an infamous organization to deliberately insult people, start vicious rumors and slander peoples reputation. They have a right to explain there selves, but in a courtroom, not an international website.
