Good matchup but wasn't Duran better in every area?

  1. no I don't think so.

    Julio defense was his offense.

We all know Julio could take a punch pretty good. Meldrick hit him with just about every punch in the list and could not dent Julio's chin.

Julio would had made Duran quit in late rounds.

  2. Duran would have Knocked Him Out COLD! Duran wasn't even hurt by Marvin hagler, one of the beast Middleweights of all-time! thats 25 lbs above lightweight. Chavez as good as he was, wouldn't be able to handle Duran's power and skill

  3. Probably the two biggest latin legends ever. Chavez turned pro the same year that Duran beat and lost to, Sugar Ray Leonard, in 1980. No doubt had they met each other in their primes it would have been a classic. Duran was probably craftier and would fight dirty when he needed to, but that left hook to the body by Chavez is was probably the best in boxing, ever. They both had incredible endurance. Hard to pick a winner, but I would give the edge to Duran.

  4. Yep.

  5. Possibly, but a decision was probably a better possibility.

Both guys had granite chins, but Duran was more aggressive and a  harder hitter.  Chavez wore his opponents down with his body attack and then took them out.  Duran could take anyone out at any time with one shot.  He was also a pretty good boxer.

Both guys were in their primes as lightweights and won almost all of their fights by KO.  Both were active and obviously had some less than top caliber opponents.  But both were also legendary Champions.

I love both of these fighters and would not want to watch them fight.  But if I had to bet I would put my money on Duran.

  6. It would have been a good matchup, but I think that Duran would have definately won at lightweight and I agree that he was better than Chavez in most areas.  Roberto Duran is arguably the best lightweight of all time, while Chavez really was at his peak as a super featherweight (he was only a lightweight for a few fights before he moved up and by that time he was past his peak).  At a different weight, Chavez MIGHT have been able to beat Duran, but at 135 it is really hard for me to imagine ANYONE beating a prime "Hands of Stone."  I don't think that the fight would end in a knockout because they were both extremely tough in their primes and had great chins, but I would take Duran by unanimous decision in a competitive, grueling, and hard fought battle.

  7. I will not even say {write} anything about Chavez~ it isn't nice to say bad things about people~

  8. yes easy whenever chavez mixed it up he dropped his right hand and duran would od capitalized with his left
