I really want to go to the Cate School in 10th grade, but it's about 41,000 a year for the tuition, and I will have expenses. Since boarding school is so expensive, I don't think I will have enough for college. What do you think? Thanks! =]

  1. Cate is a great school but it's not going to help you get a college scholarship at either of those schools.

At UCLA, scholarships are based on GPA and scores. While Cate may help you get a higher SAT score, it will probably be much easier to get a high GPA at your local public school.

As for Stanford, applying from a school like Cate can make it harder to get in. You will be applying with classmates who are legacies there and who have very connected parents. Stanford will only take a few from any one school and you may well have a better chance being a top student at your public school.

Only go to a school like Cate if you're going because it's a wonderful high school education.

  2. if you do really well at your private school, I don't think it will affect your chances of getting a scholarship.  but there are no guarantees.  you should also apply to some "lower tier" schools that will be sure to give you a lot of money.  education is basically the same everywhere, the university you go to is only a name. :)
