I am under pressure to join the US airforce. I still want to become a civil engineer. Would I be able to obtain a degree in civil engineering during my time in the army? I understand that they study in the army, if it were possible to get a degree would it be equivalent to one obtained in university?

Side question - I'm still a young man if i joined the army would I still be able to meet lots of girls or is life in that department over?

  1. army or air force you mention both..depends on how bad you want a degree..my husband got his bs two years ago...and we paid for books he didnt have the gi bill...so its possible and on their dime as well

  2. Yes,  you can get a bachelor's degree in the Army.  But it takes a lot of work and time to do it.   You have to do your duty and in your own off duty time,  take night classes or correspondence or internet classes.   Figure it will take you 8 years to finish a 4 year degree if you do it on your own.

However,  if you do two years on your own and get good grades,  you can apply for OCS and they just might send you to a good college to finish the degree,  commission you as an officer and then you serve out your time as a CE in the service.

If all else fails,  you do your four years,  use the GI BILL and get your degree that way and owe them no time what so ever.

Degree or girl?   Pick one.  It will be very hard to be working seriously on a degree and dating seriously at the same time.   Girls are a high maintenance item and may not like being placed #3 in your life,  behind work and school..

  3. You should be. but if you want to meet alot of girls the navy is the way to go. but the choice is yours

  4. h**l yeah, you meet girls!!! All over the world. Air Force is 10 times better than Army. They do a lot for you. You get to see the world and meet lots of people. And the Air Force cares more about your personal wishes than the Army, they actually want you to be comfortable. Army is just a factory. But the points you need to get in the Air Force are higher than the ones you need for the Army. But, yeah, college courses and all that are definitely possible...and lots of parties!

  5. If you're going to join the military to meet girls, you might as well forget the military.  You join the military to serve your country and to do what is expected of you by your superiors.  Girls should be the last thing on your mind.  Yes you'll meet some but that should even be a small part of why you are joining.  I suggest you go to college on your own and forget about the military.
