Question:

Would I be able to get a job in design with these qualifications?

I got A* in graphic design and in art for GCSE

I'm studying Art and History of Art at A Level and am on target to get As in both.

I'm then going to do an Art Foundation Course, and then go to University to study Fine Art.

So the question is- I want to study Art at University, but would it be better if I studied Graphics? Would I still be able to be a designer if I did art?

Thank you SO much for any help!

  1. I would look for jobs you want to do on career builder or hotjobs... Even look in Design week and see what qualification you need.

Its had to find any job in Art unless you can work for yourself which is a hard thing to do with Art.

I have a A grade GCSE in Art. A level print making and GNVQ 3 in Art.. and a degree in graphic design and t is very hard to get a job and pay is very low..and hard to find so I was forced to change career.

With Graphic design you are going to have to learn web page design to get anywhere and several computer progames which isnt fun if you just like the art aspect Graphic  Design isnt really art its more like copy and paste... I found working with fonts boring.

I would keep art as a hobbie or at least have a great back up career. After all I only goto work to get paid and Art never did it for me... Its not fun being broke or haveing to work a c**p job to pay bills... Unless your really lucky Art wont pay ou a good living..

Out of everyone I know who did it out of all my courses no one made a living in art or design all switched careers..... This includes St Martins college in London..

I know it seems like art is the be all and end all if your good at it.. try and find a career with jobs where you can be creative in other ways where there are jobs to be had..

It really sucks having to change career in your 30s because your fed up with making c**p money and all your friends that wnet to a trade school for a breif period are overtaking you by a mile...

More often than not a trade is worth its weight in gold anymore.. who hasnt got a degree theses days....?

Best bet look through job sites and find jobs in demand that pay good..... from someone thats been there and done that getting qualifications in art you will regret when you get older..
