About 2 yrs ago I was charged with possession of marijuana under 2 oz.

After much time I was able to receive pre-trial diversion. I will be off probation in a month and I would like to enlist in the air force.. Is this even possible?

  1. no, sorry

the military does not accept people on probation

also, no one who has commited a felony

  2. No. you can't join the military while on any form of probation.

  3. Of course it's possible. You will be closely evaluated, but you should be able to make it. The Navy and Air Force tend to evaluate people on a case-by-case basis. You will have to pass a drug test and have a clean background. Any more charges, and it will be much harder. I can tell you, as a former Air Force medical officer, I had absolutely no tolerance for drug users under my command. You might be restricted to certain MOS because of this charge. For example, you probably couldn't get into my field, but you could become any number of other things. Talk to an Air Force recruiter to find out what the newest August 2008 regulations state. Good luck. By the way, the question states that AFTER probation, he wants to enlist. NOT during.

  4. It's possible. You have to be off probation for 90 days before you can do any type of enlistment processing. You will require a morals waiver in order to get in. This involves you explaining what happened with the marijuana incident. This will require a lot of extra work for both you and your recrutier. You have to understand that the Air Force will have to waive it's own rules to let you in. This means you can't come in dictating about what jobs you won't be willing to do. If you do that, your recruiter will show you the door. Good Luck.
