  1. It would probably lag quite a bit.  I would recommend 12mbps.  You can get it from comcast for $42.95 a month.

  2. If you mean 756 kB, (kilobytes) it's blazing fast. But you probably are writing kilobits as kilobytes which 1st answer did too. Also it matters whether it's 756kbits/s download only, or if it's 756 kbits/s upload.

756 kilobits/s of download bandwidth is not great, but it's a little better than basic dsl which runs at 256 kbits/s. However the quality of a line is more complex than just one number.

In particular, saying a line is 12 mbits/s or 20mbits/s download means absolutely nothing as far as whether it's good for games. That is because online games use very little download bandwidth. The only time they use much bandwidth at all is when you are the host, and in that case they use a lot of upload bandwidth, not a lot of download.

I used a bandwidth monitor to examine online game bandwidth use. Typically an online game on ps2 or ps3 will  use from 50kbits/s to 100kbits/s of download bandwidth. Usually it settles at much less than 100. Clients (players) use about 10 to 15 kbits/s of upload bandwidth. Servers have a different situation, a server with 10 players connected would have 10 people each demanding 50 to 100 kbits/s of data, or 500 kbits/s to 1 mbits/s. That would stress your line a bit. On ps3 games, the maximum players will be determined by a bandwidth test that runs before you start the room.

If your 756kbits/s is upload bandwidth too, then you have enough bandwidth to host rooms of 12 players. That's not bad at all.

There's more, though, the most important factor of all is latency, or ping. This is the time it takes for data to get from your ps3 to the server and back again. No matter how high your bandwidth is, you will risk lag if you have average ping above 250. And even if you have just a 256 kbits line, you will have no lag at all playing games if your ping is below 200. Bandwidth is a limit for hosting but not playing.

A big myth about lag is that it's caused by the players. It's the server's fault 9 times out of 10.

If your 756kbits/s line has good ping, it's fine for online with ps3 as a player. It can also host if it's 756kbits upload as well as download. If it's only 256 kbits upload, it won't be good for hosting.
