Sorry it this is not the correct category to ask this. I was told that riding with one leg would cause an unbalanced situation which is not good for the horse and dangerous. Is this true?

  1. Nah, I wouldn't say it would be dangerous.  People used to ride side-saddle all the time... you can't get anymore unbalanced than that.  They have places where people of all shapes and sizes can ride.  Your instructor will be able to help you and they'll give you a nice quiet horse who isn't going to make any sudden movements.  Riding is great and anyone can do it!

  2. No, Ride and enjoy yourself. It is good therapy. You need to be careful AS ALWAYS. But I say go for it.

  3. just take it slow and ul be fine

  4. Am i correct in understanding that you  have one leg?  If so look  into  a facility that offers riding as therapy for the handicapped.  You may not require therapeutic riding but a good facility will tell you  what kind of compensation needs to be made to correct the balance issues.  As to the danger issue.. well i've fallen off my fair share of horse... all animals are dangerous.

  6. Well, it could be a little tougher on your part, but with an encouraging instructor and a quiet horse you'll probably be fine. Have fun riding! :)

  7. I recently got out of a full leg cast and did ride once without a problem.  We went slow and that helped.  We stopped for a while and my fiance had to help me down, and lift me back up later. The only problem was that I did  not bring my crutches, but that turned out to be a good thing.  Good luck.
