Would I be charged for changing my debit card number?

I have mistakenly ordered something from a scam company. Lots and lots of people have been charged over 60 dollars a month without consent. It is called VitaClear and comes with a Proactive.

So the question is:

Can my bank not make any payment to this company?

or should I change my debit card number, and if I do, would I be charged for changing it?

  1. In theory, you can instruct the bank not to honor any future charges from the company.  In practice, the bank will recommend replacing the card with a new number.  Because this is related to fraud, the should not charge for the service.  On the other hand, if this happens the you often, they my be less cooperative.

  2. Contact your bank as soon as possible and inform them of the problem.

Most banks will not charge you as it is part of their security protocol.

If they do charge you then it will be far less than the amoutn you would loose to a fraud... it will teach you that you might want to be more careful in the future.

  3. You can change your debit card as a free service of the bank. Changing the card number won't eliminate the 60 debt. This can all be done over the phone
