If my ancestors from 2000 years ago came from northern Europe, would I be considered to be European, or is it too log of a time?

  1. Since you are an American citizen, your nationality is nothing but American.

Your racial heritage might be Northern European.   If you have had a DNA test done and they have based it on your Y & mitchondrial DNA only, then that is very incomplete.  Y & Mitochondrial are a very minute part of your DNA.  They are used in genealogy as they go back a specific line with almost no changes.

Most of your DNA is autosomal and you get your physical characteristic from it.  If you go back to your 6xgreat grandparents, barring any duplicate, you are directly descended from 510 individuals.  Of those 510 indidividuals you get your Y DNA from 8 and your mitochondrial DNA from 8 but you get your autosomal DNA from all 510.

When I say "barring any duplicates" what I mean is, for instance, you might find that your 2xgreat grandfather in one family line was your 4xgreat grandfather in another.  A lot of people find out for the first time that they are married to a distant cousin when they start doing family research.

  2. When doing genealogy, the right terminology is tricky, and makes a difference.  Your ANCESTRY is from Europe. What you ARE depends on where you are born or raised, are a citizen of, etc.

Things change a whole lot in 2000 years.

  3. Short Answer:

You're an American of Indian descent.

    Long Explanation:

---True, the Indo-European language family originated from Sanskrit, a language of the Indian subcontinent that forms the basis for the Zen, Persian, Greek, Latin, Celtic, Teutonic, and Slavic language families.

---True, Persians and Indians call themselves "Aryan".

---From these two facts, already racially-biased anthropologists during the 1930s jumped to the conclusion that a distinct ethnic group that they called  "the Aryans" divided into two sub-groups.  According to this theory, one group made its way to Northern Europe while the other came out of the Ukraine steppes to invade the Indian subcontinent.

About this time, Hitler and Goebbels were casting about for psuedo-scientific theories to back up their belief of German racial superiority.  From a few grains of truth, they falsely concluded that the German people descended from  a racially superior group that they called the Aryans.

Of course, the n***s disregarded the minor detail that the word "Aryan" as found in Vedic texts meant "righteous' and "noble" and didn't have anything to do with any ethnic group.  What's more, no reference to an invasion of India can be found in any Vedic manuscripts, and no archaeological evidence exists for a sudden invasion of India as well.

Finally, the racial purity that the n***s advocated doesn't really exist if 2,000 year old burial sites in Denmark are any indication.  DNA markers of samples tested there show much genetic variation.

    P. S. for Ultana (June 24, 2008, 2:15 p.m. CDST):  "On US Census forms, 90% of Indian Americans self-identify as Asian-Indian, including those who wrote in Dravidian, Bharati, Indo-Aryan, Indo-Dravidian, Hindu, and Pacific Asian.  The US Census classifies the response of 'Aryan' as white, even though responses of 'Indo-Aryan' are counted as Asian."

  4. Are you living in America now?

  5. Nope, not European anymore. Who you are is mainly dependent on where you (and maybe your parents) were born and raised.

  6. I would just say your nationally Northern India or Russian with European ancestors.

I would not say your nationally is European in-less you live there are you move from there to America.

With me I am an American with ancestors from England & Scotland.

  7. Came from northern Europe to where?

And how did you trace you ancestors back so far?

Most of us are lucky to get documented ancestors back the the 19th century.

A DNA test might give you the answers about your heritage.

    Maye you should have one.

  8. You are American.........with Indian, Russian, and European heritage.

  9. Yeah you're European.

(There is no such European nationality - the above are confussed) European is just another way of saying white, unless you've turned black, you're still European.

  10. You must have a speck in there somewhere.  Where's your grandparents & great grandparents from?  2000 years ago is a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry long time ago.  What's your last name?  That should tell you something.
