Im 16 years old and wrestling seasons coming up. I really want to join wrestling. I weigh 215 pounds but am 5'11''. I am also a bit buff. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would be a 7 or 8 I bet. However I do have a lot of fat around my theighs which I think is bad.

Are there things I should know. Would I get completely crushed in the ring?

I will add a picture to this question once I find one...

  1. It depends on your stamina, conditioning, strength, quickness, balance, and skills.

You must be able to wrestle for 3 two minute periods. You must be able to have the strength and quickness to take somebody down.  Or you must be able to anticipate a takedown by sprawling and performing couner-moves.

Once on the mat, if you are on top, you must be able to control you opponent and turn his back to the mat.  If you end up on bottom, you must be able to perform defensive moves to avoid being pinned.

So body shape does not have anything to do with wrestling.  Your ability to succeed depends all on your skills.

  2. wrestling is legs kid. get to work and technique too

things you should know: the hardest sport out there and the conditioning is brutal
