Question:

Would I get a ticket if I drive a car that has a dented hood?

My car recently got into an accident, in which the hood is slightly popped up across the center, allowing you to see the engine from the side. Would it be dangerous for me as a driver? Would the hood suddenly pop up when i'm driving, even with the latch securing it in place? If it rains, would any of the parts be damaged? Also, would a cop stop me and give me a ticket if I drive it the way it is? It's my only form of transportation, and I can't really afford to lose it for a day or two. Thanks!

  1. You could possibly get a ticket if the hood obstructs your view.

The latch is probably not as dependable if it is bent there as well, or if it is stressed.

And moisture, debris, and other objects could get into your engine compartment and cause damage if not fully covered by the hood.

If it were me, and my only means of transportation, I would try to bang the hood back into a decent shape, tie down the hood.. just in case the latch is damaged, and try to find a replacement ASAP.  Doesn't mean it's safe, but would probably get me by until a replacement is found.

    Good luck!

  2. why dont u just get someone to sit down hard on the  hood until it resemles some sort of decency until u gat the car  fixed

  3. i've seen cars that have no hood drive around. not saying they haevn't gotten tickets but eh. like dude said, you may wanna see if you can hammer it back flat because some things could get damaged. yuor insurance won't pay for a rental while you get it fixed?

  4. Legal as long as it does not obstruct the drivers vision...

  5. do ya got a pic of it??? slightly popped up isnt seeing the engine. its hard to tell w/o a pic.

  6. ehhh ive seen worse...as long as the latch...and both hood mounts are all connected and working properly you should be all right...and as long as the hood isnt dented up enough to block your sight then i cant see a cop giving you a ticket.

as for the engine being exposed to rain...yes components can get damaged....since the hoods completely screwed anyway..get yourself a big hammer and see if you can hammer it down enough to cover that gap???

  7. 1. yes you could be stopped for driving a dangerous vehicle in the eyes of the police officer.

    2. yes the hood could pop open at any time.

    3. yes if you drive it in the rain you could find yourself stranded on the side of the road due to the rain water getting into the electrical system of the vehicle.
