Okay so I finished freshman year with a 3.67 gpa. I could've done better but in the first semester..I had a terrible flu right before the finals and I didnt really study well because I was sick. So my total gpa is 3.67. And I wanted to know if i do well in 10th, 11th and 12th...do a lot of community service and stuff like that would my chances be high on getting accepted to an ivy league school? also would my gpa be a 4.0?

  1. Really, unless you have exceptional accomplishments outside of the classroom, no one has high chances of getting into the ivy league with just great grades. All of the 8 ivy schools reject far more qualified candidates than they accept due to limited space and tens of thousands of applicants with high grades and scores.

In addition to good grades you need to take your schools hardest classes and rank at the top of your class. You need very high SAT scores. And you need something that you do that makes you stand out from the crowd.

  2. Schools considered "Ivy League" are Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, U. of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

I suggest you contact each of these Ivy League schools to determine "standards" of acceptance.

Even if you earn a 4.0 GPA in your remaining highschool years, you will never graduate with a 4.0 GPA because you did not earn a 4.0 during your freshman year.

  3. i'm kind of in the same situation as you. my gpa freshman year was a 89.57. i also had the flu. i did a lot of extra curricular, volunteer work, and leadership programs though. i think if u work really hard the next three years and try to stand out by doing something ur good at you will get in!

  4. Ivy's reject people you have perfect SATS and GPA's day by day. As the other poster stated, you need something to stand out. You may apply to all of them and may just get into one or two. I would check out Cornell or Columbia for you. I honestly think you can go to a non Ivy and get just as good as an education for half the price. Good Luck!
