I know France helps the French with money for their study.

But would I get help too?

I live in the United States and I will go to school in France to study French at a University...

  1. Work out all your finances beforehand.  France is not in the habit of subsidizing just anyone that happens to go there to study.  I would contact your school and find out about any financial aid that might be available to you in advance.

  2. French students get grants (bourses d'études) when they can prove they really need the financial help. Those grants are to help poor people get a higher education, not to give a free ride to those who can afford the expense.  Foreign students can get grants from the French government as well, but you need to make your demand one year in advance at the French Embassy, fall into the right category, and your country has to have a reciprocity agreement with France.

You probably speak good French if you're coming to France to study, so here is the French site about grants for foreigners:

However, if you are being sent to study French in France it means your parents can afford the expense, in that case you are not eligible.

  3. University studies in France are essentially free. There is no charge for tuition only a very small fee.

Of course you must be able to house and feed yourself.

French students who are in need can receive a stipend for living expenses but I do not believe foreigners are generally eligible.

Still, considering the high price of college in the USA, its still a really good deal.

  4. no
