If I were to decide to get my tubes tied? Should I get them cut, tied and burned? I'm getting tired of the birth control messing up my periods (they used to last only 5-7 days, but since I started birthe control, it has lasted more than two weeks each month)

  1. I won't comment on procedure or method... that's between you and your doctor... but if all goes well, you should be in and out of the hospital in 24 to 48 hours for a simple tubal ligation (assuming they even keep you there at all, which they normally won't).

If your periods are lasting longer on hormones, I'd be concerned about there being something abnormal going on... such as uterine fibroids... and in any case, your gyno surgeon will want a complete exam with ultrasounds to look at before considering surgery, and any such stuff would probably show themselves.

  2. Having your tubes tied can now be done as an outpatient procedure providing there are no complications. It is done by laparoscope and you go home the same day. Check with your GYN.

  3. This procedure is normally done on an out patient basis in an outpatient surgery center.  In other words you go home within 8 hours if no complications arise.

  4. lots of other options rather than an operation..ask about mirena IUD

  5. Its done as out-patient service, so 4-6 hours max.
