Question:

Would I legally be able to employ a foreign person to care for my family?

My grandmother is in a residential home. She wants to return to her own home. Though she is terminally ill she can make her needs known, though needs toileting and bathing etc. She can have carers 4 times daily, but would require someone at night. This is nigh on impossible here but I have family in Morocco. How do I stand legally if I were to ask a family member to come over here to care for her? what are the legal requirements for work permit etc please?

  1. sounds like what you want to do is have family visit - you can sponsor someone, they MUST NOT work (ie in a job) but you can support and accomodate them - the important thing would be to show that they have something to go back to :house, job, family and they MUST leave by the date of their visa (up to 6 months)

you won't be able to employ them as an au pair

  2. get an au pair

  3. Just sneak someone over in the back of a lorry, that seems to be working a lot these days

  4. If it is a Family Member you want to bring in to the country ,then that is quite a different matter .  You will have to answer the question that might crop up---will your Family member be wanting to work elsewhere during the Day ? She might be allowed in on an extended Visa if you are prepared to sponsor her throughout her stay. Are The 4 carers per day provided under th NHS? These questions might not be comfortable ones for you to answer but be prepared to be asked such questions . It would be less trouble for you to find some one --A foreighner--if you prefer who is legally granted ILR

  5. A person needs a work permit in the UK must have a very unique skill that English citizens cannot do or at least have great qualifications. I Don't think they will grant a carer a work permit. What has become the world if they did huh??

  6. A sponsorship for a domestic work but you might have a problem with Middle eastern personnel to come to America.

  7. You wouldn't be able to employ them legally - to come to the UK on a work permit you need to be highly skilled or have a unique skill which the UK natives don't have, and a carer does not fit that bill.

You may be able to bring a family member over to stay for a short time and care for your grandmother but they would have to be able to support themselves totally or you would have to be able to support them (and show you could support them) with no recourse to public funds (ie no access to benefits, NHS care etc) or employment (as they would not have a work permit).

Once their visa expired they would have to leave or risk being removed as an illegal.

  8. You could hire a person as a "housekeeper" and ask them to do things for ur family on the side, if they are willing and if you are paying at least the legal minimum wage then everything is legal :)

  9. As long as someone has the legal rights to work in this country then you are covered.  There may be other ways to get a relative to work in this country under these circumstances.  Check under immigration in the telephone directory.  I am sure if you use the proper channels and under these limited circumstances that it should be able to work out.  Good luck.
