  1. Moving anywhere, you need to find out what you like where you are.  I'm sure you will miss your home but if you try, there is always something somewhere you will like.  Pennsylvania is approximately six very different cultural region.  It goes like this.

Erie.  On the shore, mostly a small tourist and college town.  Down lake from Cleveland -- that explains most of it.

Pittsburgh.  A medium sized city with a decent and unusual urban life.  Lots of eastern European food instead of tacos.

Harrisburg, State capital and a rather sleepy place for a capital city.  Hershey is headquartered here.  Fun place.

Northern PA, along the NY State line.  Lots of farms and very rural.  Very good deer hunting.

State College, its own "happy valley" with college mostly year round.  Most per capital of bars and taverns.

Philly, its own over-urbanized, over-spending urban center.  If you live in PA and not Philly, you generally don't like Philly folks.  Cheese steaks make you fat.

  2. I spent almost my whole life in the Philadelphia area. I went to school in Philadelphia and lived in the suburbs. Thus, I can tell you a few very contradictory things to what other posters have mentioned.

    1. If we got one snow day, it was a miracle. Snow is pretty rare in appreciable amounts. Three inches is a blizzard. I have NEVER seen snow in October or November. In 25 years, I've seen one white Christmas (I was maybe 8 years old).

    2. It gets cold but not arctic. I've never seen it get below zero.

    3. The summers are oppressively hot. It gets warm by April and stays like that until October. It gets to 80° by May.

    4. Miscellaneous notes: the Philadelphia area is essentially like the NYC area, minus the horrific traffic. It's bad during rush hour, but not like New York. Real estate ranges from average to incredibly expensive for most people. The Jersey shore is disgusting but it's not far if you want a cheap weekend getaway.

  3. It has cold. It has no ocean. It doesn't have long summer stretches that get very hot (not for more than a few days at a time). It is definitely a place to see snow (particularly in mountain resort areas like Poconos).

I don't know where in that large state you are going. I do know that one popular saying by the residents of that long state with a big city on each side and a lot of isolated areas is "Pennsylvania has two large sophisticated cities but in between it is all Alabama." And they do not mean that in a good way.

  4. No, probably not.

It gets cold here, we have snow as early as October and as late as March and April. But if you've never seen snow, you really are missing out, it's a beautiful sight.

No ocean either, PA is almost completely land locked...

Moving to Pennsylvania might not be the best fit for you, but come visit anytime!

  5. Probably not.

  6. god no. lol i mean i lived there all my life, but it is exactly to opposite. its snows and snows in the winter and gets hot in the summer, its usually humid too. we have loads of state parks, rivers, lakes and ponds with "beaches". what part of PA are you moving to? they are all pretty similar but soooo different too. oh and also, at least 2ce a year it thunders, lightnings and snows. lol

  7. Pennsylvania is near the North Pole and it snows there a lot and can get really cold. Try Nebraska, Florida, California, or somewhere like that. All of those except for Florida snow there, but it is not that cold.

  8. Depends on where in PA you are. If you are close to Philadelphia, the Jersey shore is just an hour and a half away, and the weather is not too bad. As to the cold weather, it gets cold. I grew up in southern N.J. and I can tell you that the temperature can vary a hundred degrees in the course of an average year.
