Question:

Would I make a good Wendy Disneyland face character?

I've thought of being a cast member for a while now, but I'm a little off on the requirements, and have always been self conscious about my looks. I feel ugly and am annoyed by every little thing. But maybe I'm too hard on myself. So I just want honest opinions about whether or not I work.

Wendy height is supposed to be around 4'10" - 5'2", and I'm 5'3" 1/2. But it's weird, my stance varies, and one time it can look down to just 5'3", and the next 5'4".

I'm 95lbs, which my doctor says is 20lbs underweight, am I too skinny looking?

Lastly, my face...here's a few photos.

Again, honesty. Don't be mean to me, though. :<

  1. I really do think you could be a good Wendy!!

You have the body for it and your face looks very similar to Wendy's.

The only recommendations I have are: if you go to a casting call I would wear some mineral foundation, just to even out your skin tone. Some brown mascara, brown eyeliner and a little bit of blush- just to look natural and young. Disney doesn't like a lot of makeup at casting calls but this is just enough.

    Good luck!

  2. I think you would be a geat wendy. Just keep in mind that you probally have to be 18 and older and will have to audition. A face character speaks too. Also , you have to join a union as a performer. If you don't get it right away, get a job at the park doing something else: rides, guest service, etc. Then when audtions roll around again, you already have your foot in the door. They almost always do in-house auditions before they do auditions for the general public.

  3. You could possibly be Wendy, but normally the Wendy/Alice cast members at Disneyland look very young and are no taller than 5'2" (Disneyland is very, very strict on this!). If you're around 5'3" or 5'4" you'd be a better candidate for a princess role -- Snow White and Ariel are considered the shortest princesses, but they're really not as strict on princess height as they are on the child roles. Believe me when I say that if you are taller than 5'2" you probably won't be cast as Wendy/Alice.

The truth is, though, it's hard to say what you might look like in a wig and makeup -- the casting directors often see things that we never do. Height is something that could (and probably has) been set aside for the perfect candidate. If Disney really likes your face, they might work with you (if not as Wendy/Alice, then as a princess) so I would encourage you to attend an audition and see what happens!

As to your weight: I don't think you look too skinny, but something you should keep in mind is that, as far as face characters go, Disney doesn't like hiring people who look sick. In the past, girls who are even a bit overweight have been hired over those who are underweight. Another thing to keep in mind regarding size is that you have to be able to fit in their costumes! There have been girls who have made it all the way through the auditions, only to be turned away because they were too skinny (size 0) to fit into the dresses. I think the dresses normally range between size 4 (or so) all the way through size 10 -- I'm not totally sure on this, but it's a general range.

Another thing that I wanted to let you know is that you DO NOT have to join a union as a performer! You don't even have to have experience as a performer (though it helps). The audition is an open call -- a very basic cattle call -- in which Disney is simply looking for the best people to fill roles. It goes as follows:

    1) They look you over. They decide if you have the right look, and if you do they keep you. If they don't, your audition is over. For some, the audition process is only about 10 minutes long!

    2) Sometimes they'll evaluate your movement, though not always. If they do, it's just to make sure you move gracefully enough.

    3) They'll put you in a wig and makeup, to make sure you really resemble a character (or characters).

    4) At some point, they'll evaluate your acting and improve skills. They want to see if you can really be convincing in a character role.

They're very selective in their process, but if you have what it takes and you've never performed before, you'll still get hired. It's happened before and I guarantee you it'll happen again.

The most important thing for you to remember is that this whole thing is very subjective, and what Disneyland is looking for changes constantly, based on different factors (such as how much you look like girls who are already in the role). Even if you don't make it the first time (and I'll be honest -- you probably won't), go back and try again. Becoming a face character is EXTREMELY difficult and VERY competitive, so only the most persistent usually prevail.

But you are very pretty and I do think you have a look they could work with. So go and see what happens -- and, again, if you get turned away, go back next time. If you don't make it, and you have a chance, try to ask the casting directors what it was about you that they didn't like, so that maybe you can try to change it next time (it's not always easy to get to talk to them, but sometimes you can).

Good luck, and if you have any other questions, please let me know!

  4. You'd Make A Perfect Wendy!!!! You Look Beautiful. Don't Be Hard On Yourself Because You're NOT Ugly! You're A Very Pretty Girl And Would Make A Great Wendy!! Remember: Keep Smiling And 95LBS Is NOT Under-Weight! You'd Be Perfect For The Job! Go For It! Your Face And Body Work Perfectly. You're Not To Skinny AT ALL!! Hope You Get The Job! BYE!!!!
