My grandmother was born in Newfoundland in 1937 While it was still a British colony and before it became a province in Canada. Would that count as having a grandparent born in the UK? Would I qualify for a UK Ancestry Visa?

  1. Nope. Because Newfoundland is not born in the UK, Republic of Ireland or the Channel Islands or Isle of Mann. There grandparent requirements are:

you have a grandparent who was born in the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Mann

you have a grandparent that was born in what is now the Republic of Ireland prior to 31 March 1922

  2. I am sure that you are just the sort of person we need here in the UK to help get it back to where it was in your grandfathers time; sadly, you would have a greatly enhanced chance of being welcomed here if you were black and preferably Muslim.
