I heard the car's battery re-fills it self with electricity. So it's like free electricity?

  1. no it uses your gas

  2. That sounds great! But the awnser is no. Sorry bout the bad news...The only way that would work is if you purchased a power inverter then you could charge any wall plug in with your ciggattte lighter but to save money you would have to do this with your vehicle running...which means to acually save money you would have to do this while driving to the store, work etc. your battery only charges itself while there is a load on your alternator meaning while the vehicle is running and the charge at idle is to low to charge anything but your battery itself, the higher the rpm the higher the charge...but if you pull to much power from your battery your alternator works harder and your vehicle will consume more gas...plus on top of that you will be pushing your battery and your alternator harder and they will need replaced at an earlier milage then normal.Plus on top of all that you can only run things throu your power inverter that do not take alot of power such as a phone charger...cofee maker, and small appliances like that...if you tried running a high amped appliance like a tv it would just blow your fuse to your ciggarette lighter....So it is possible and sounds great but you are better off using the power from your wall jack at your home.

  3. Your car battery will wear done quickly and then you will need to buy a new battery. No saving, you just end up paying more.

  4. don't forget the gas

yes the car "re-fills" itself, but when you start the car the next time, your battery will be a little lower if you were doing it without the car running. causing more wear and tear

and when you are driving it, and you charge your rechargeables, they do cause a load, which means that your Alternator will work slightly harder, then you use just a little more gas for it and more wear and tear

So, it isn't really free, but it can feel like it though

  5. The alternator is always running so yes you may save some money hooking things up to your battery to charge. However draw too much power off your battery and you'll end up stranded somewhere. I'd make sure I have a battery gauge and monitor it religiously if I was charging anything that could draw a significant amount of battery power.

  6. uh, no. Your battery does not refill itself with electricity. Your alternator charges your battery while the engine is running. All your battery really does is start your car.
