I have some German ancestry from the 1700s to the early part of the 1800s, would I still be part German? Also I have some French from I think a little earlier on, would I still be part French? I have the tree recorded from records.

  1. Your DNA never goes away!

  2. Yes, partly, with whatever else you have.

Not that there's any real reason to care about what ethnicities you are.

  3. you have German & French ancestry, though it sounds as though it might be a very small part.

I know my own ethnic background, but we're down to quarters & eighths.  How small should you go before it no longer counts?

  4. At a guess I would say that you belong to the human race.

  5. I don't think you would count as a French or German even if you can trace your ancestry back to these races.No-one is a pure race, we're all a mixture of many races if we trace our ancestry way back. You are just what your mom and dad are unless they too are different races then you would be considered as a "coloured".
