  1. I would stick with the cage because it has ventilation.

  2. i think u shud put it in a cage . their just so much better .

  3. pros:

easier to find the hamster.. less tubes and tunnels for it to hide in

easier to clean because of lack of tubes again

    cons:

it wouldnt let any of the smells out of it (and trust me it gets SMELLY)

less fun for hamster because of lack of tubes

  4. Dear Dee B,

No. A cage. Better for your hamster. Hope this helped!

  5. it would keep all of the bedding stuff off the floor but it might be harder for it to breathe.. maybe not though

  6. Get a wire cage it will be healthier for the hamster. Hamsters love to climb the bars and go through the tunnels and the hamster would would not be able to do that in a aquarium.

  7. The ventilation in a 10 gallon tank isn't as good as the ventilation in a cage made completely of wire, but it's actually better than those plastic hamster cages they sell. Those often only have small panels of bars for ventilation, and most of them have some sort of plastic chamber with nearly NO ventilation - called a "petting zone" in Crittertrail cages, I believe.

If you clean the tank weekly and have a wire mesh top, there shouldn't be a problem with ventilation or waste buildup.

Other benefits of a tank include easier access to the hamster, ease of cleaning (those plastic cages are nearly impossible to clean thoroughly), and they hold heat better in cooler months. Of course, that means they're warmer in the summer, too, so never put the cage in direct sunlight!

A 10 gallon tank is about twice the size of most plastic cages and most of the wire cages sold in pet stores. It's a cheaper, more spacious option - yes, you can get a good sized wire cage, but you'll have to pay several times the amount and order online.

It's certainly an acceptable form of housing for a hamster.

  8. aquarium

    Pros: keeps bedding in

Cons: No alot of ventilation unless u leave top like half off.

    Cage

Pros: good vetilation....usually comes with tubes and a water bottle depending on the cage

Cons: Bedding can come out easlier...harder to catch him

  9. I have all my hamsters and gerbils in either a ten or twenty gallon aquarium.  I used to have wire cages but I got tired of the mess on the floor.  At that point I had over twenty hamsters so it was just easier for me to switch to aquariums.  It was a bit much cleaning up that much bedding off the floor for all those guys.  Wire cages are a bit better for ventilation and the hamsters have more room to move around.  I did find though that my hamsters always got their feet stuck in the bars.

I find the aquariums to be good because they are very easy to clean out and obviously no mess on the floor.  Since they get less ventilation it's best to make sure they are kept in an area that doesn't get too hot.  Other than that I have been happy with using them and my guys are just as happy.

  10. it will b the worst thing 4 u

it will b  very difficlt to clean and if it was covered, the smell in it will be horrible

  11. No it wouldn't get the airflow it needs, that would be cruel.  Break down and buy a proper cage.

  12. Uh no because Hamsters like to climb around and that's not a good Idea.

  13. Sure.  I had a lot of hamsters/gerbils that lived in 10 gallon aquariums.  Pet stores sell lids with metal mesh (like what a screen on a window is made out of) that will fit right over it

  14. It's alright, but a hamster cage it's preferable because it lets in more air and sunlight.

  15. A tank is a fairly good idea- however, animals can easily overheat in there and it doesn't provide any ventilation to alleviate the smell of the animal living, breathing, eating and going to the toilet in there.
