At this time in his life, in his office and not in a POW camp...I think he would have you arrested for doing that...and rightly so.

I think the point of the story is that these guys were tortured daily and were close to giving up hope on anything.  His office is very posh and comfortable and I can't see you even getting your foot in the door.
