Would Lewis Hamilton be able to pull rabbits out of the hat?
The McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton sees the hope of a second title almost die out after the Brazilian Grand Prix held last Sunday. Although he is only 24-point adrift the charts’ topper, Fernando Alonso, he believes that his McLaren would not be quick enough
to challenge the rivals.
The last round of the season, held in Brazil yesterday, saw the driver wrap up at 4th place after having started the race from the same slot on the grid. On the other hand, his teammate, Jenson Button was only able to settle at 5th
place, although he jumped several places after beginning the day from the 11th grid-place.
Presently, the two McLaren drivers, Hamilton and Button, stand at 4th and 5th places in the Drivers’ Championship with their 222 and 199 points respectively. Although, Button is now completely out of the title battle, mathematically
the chances of Hamilton are still alive.
The points’ tally is currently ruled by the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso with his 246 points as he has been victorious in four of the last eight races. With 25 points to still play for, the difference of 24 points is statistically considered to be an
achievable target especially for a driver, like Hamilton. However, as the driver has stated several times earlier all through the season, he once again proclaimed that he does not have the fastest car on the track. He is strongly of the view that the pace
of Red Bull and Ferrari is far better than his MP4-25 and he would not be able to chase them with the current form of the car.
The 2008 World Champion was far short of pace as compared to the Red Bull duo or Ferrari’s ace driver, Alonso, at Interlagos, this Sunday. As the race ended he very clearly proclaimed that he had to settle for fourth place because he was not able to catch
the fore-runners.
While talking to the media as the race ended, the British driver said, “There's not really too much to say. We got a good result generally, but I was nowhere - I had no grip. We'll go to the next race and we have nothing to really lose now so as always we'll
just keep pushing."
Soon after the very first Friday practice Hamilton felt that McLaren does not have the pace they require to beat teams like Red Bull and Ferrari. Now, as he packed at forth place he very clearly stated that even rolling the dice and having an additional
pit stop for new tyres did not bear the desired results for him.
"The car didn't feel like it did in practice and down the straights particularly. I didn't think the F-duct was working because I was struggling to overtake backmarkers in a straight line and Fernando shot past me on the straight. The team did a great job
on the strategy but you can't win with a car that's not quick enough," he told the press.
However, the aggressive dark man is reluctant to give up. He very openly expressed that he would do his best in Abu Dhabi, and would push as hard as he can. Yet, he declared that he does not have a lot of hope as he heads for Yas Marina but only he would
try to take up any opportunity that comes his way.
He is certain that if the car was not very competitive in Brazil it would not be in Abu Dhabi as well. At the same time when his fans as well as the team believes that Hamilton is capable of pulling rabbits out of the hat when required, the 25 year old said,
“I'd have to pull a miracle out, but then again that could happen. I'll keep driving like I do and I won't give up."
