In one of the made-for-DVD movies they showed on Cartoon Network a little while back Lex Luthor killed Mercy in order to tie up the last lead to him. I know the writer wanted to reinforce that Lex is supposed to be evil, but that didn't seem right to me.

And, not in a they're supposed to get evil married, settle down in their evil home, with the evil picket fence, and have evil babies together sense. I mean Lex seems like an intelligent guy who understands it's hard to get ahold of a good lieutenant, especially when any right-minded person who knows what you're up to would despise you.

Of course that brings up the obvious. Did they ever establish, or try to establish Mercy's back story? She's like an inexplicable and totally devoted servant of Lex's. For all we know he has a secret brain-washing lab somewhere. He abducts a vagrant woman, put's her through the program and has a new assistant. And, she's totally disposable. Maybe that's why her look keeps changing. She's like Kenny, but not. Luthor keeps killing her.

Heck maybe that's an outlet for his antisocial tendencies. Like how serial killers pick up street-walkers to murder, only the advanced version.

  1. Lex would kill if it was good for business, so if killing Mercy was good for business then Lex would have Mercy killed on the spot.

  2. The modern Lex Luthor is your typical amoralistic entrepreneur.  He would kill and eat his own mother if it kept his fat out of the fryer.

  3. Depends on who is writing the story.

  4. Luthor would never kill anybody, in the original comic book version Luthor was a crook who robbed banks and dreamed of big things like being president and blah, he would never kill anybody because he considered somebody dying to be a loss.
