Would Liverpool walk the same line of monetary injections as Chelsea and Man City?
At last the cries of Liverpool fans have been heard. They wanted to replace their owners and finally they have been able to do so. However, the speculations regarding the new owners are still making news, as people are unaware of the ways they would adopt
to deal with the club.
The Liverpool fans had doubts about their American owners, due to which they wanted a change in the administration. However, the current American owners are expected to be placed with NESV, New England Sports Venture, which has American flavour as well.
Therefore, the fans are quite unsure whether the future owners would be any good or not. Also, NESV is known for using such opportunities as business ventures, which is an idea that haunts many people.
Nevertheless, one of the major problems of Liverpool seems to have come to an end. The new owners claim to cover a major of Liverpool’s debts, which means that club would show prospects of making profits in the future. This problem was so daunting that it
prevented Liverpool from purchasing any notable players in the past, with the only exception of Fernando Torres. Also, with the club making lesser profits on match-days, because of limited seats at Anfield, the problem of debts was creating further financial
problems.
Now, with UEFA’s new regulations in force, a change in ownership would show its fruits in the future. When many clubs would be facing the problem of breaking even, Liverpool would not face any such problem. For the time being, this is a heavy burden being
put off from the shoulders of Liverpool fans and administration alike.
But, this ownership deal is not in any way similar to the ownership deals of Chelsea or Manchester City. Liverpool fans must have wanted a takeover similar in fashion to Roman Abramovich’s takeover of Chelsea, or Sheikh Mansour’s takeover of Manchester City.
On the other hand, they have got a few millionaires in place, who mean business. There is no doubt that business is directly related with victories, but winning does not seem to be the ultimate goal.
Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour invested a lot of money in their respective clubs. They bought many quality players, which turned the fate of their clubs in their favour. Although, Mansour still has to wait for some time before he would enjoy the fruits of
his investments, however, Abramovich is an exemplary owner for all fans around the world. The problem is that Liverpool fans cannot expect their new owners to behave in the same way. There is no doubt that some funds would be made available to the manager,
but with the current problems the club needs heavy funding. There are problems with the defence, the midfield and the strikers, which cannot be solved overnight.
Similar thoughts were expressed by Martin Broughton, the chairman of Liverpool football club. He said that he was looking to replace Liverpool’s owners with a ‘sugar daddy’, referring to Abramovich and Mansour. However, he said that he failed to do so despite
the fact that Liverpool is a more known brand. He said that the current owners would not be like Romans, but no one should expect such a thing. He also issued a warning to all other clubs who are facing debt problems and are trying to find some big investors.
The problem, according to Broughton, was that Liverpool had more serious problems. Chelsea was cheaper to Abramovich, as compared to Liverpool. Apart from the initial investment, more money is required to be spent on stadium particularly. So, despite carrying
a huge brand name, Liverpool did not attract many billionaires like Chelsea or Manchester City.
Now, with an expected £300 million required for stadium, no one should expect NESV to make heavy funds available for transfers. Liverpool fans should be content with the current deal and should not be greedy for more. Even in the worst case scenario, NESV
would be much better than the previous owners, who brought nothing but trouble to the club.
