Question:

Would Martin Luther King Jr really be proud of black people today?

On the 45th Anniversary of his famous speech, I've heard many say MLK would've been proud of the DNC and Obama's speech. Why would he? MLK was a Republican who said people should be judged on character (which Obama has none) and not race (which is exactly what has happened). He would be disappointed.

Watch now as all the black "Republicans" come out and endorse the most liberal politician in the nation right now - why do you think that is? It's certainly not the politics. MLK would not be proud. Way too much emphasis on race today - he wanted a united America, and as these things tend to show, the USA is divided. It reminds me of how black people celebrated all day long when OJ got off the hook for murdering 2 white people in cold blood. Race was all that mattered. What a shame.

Do you agree with most or all of what I just said? No way would he be proud, look at things MLK said in his most famous speeches. This all goes against it.

  1. he'll be embarrassed with them

  2. Mrs. Bass got it right, dude.

A race based on race would have eliminated Obama way before he won in Iowa.  Iowa.

Plenty of Republicans in general have decided to vote Democratic out of disgust with what their party has turned in to, this is one place where race is not so much a factor.

OJ case - you need to get over it;  I am a white suburbanite, many many of my white friends saw reasonable doubt for OJ while my black friends said, he did it for sure and should have gone to prison - anecdotal evidence is just what it is, anecdotal and we could match each other all day long.

Then there is my relief to listen to a speech by someone who is articulate and can properly use and pronounce words longer than two syllables.

Your mind is already made up, too bad; but others will read this stuff and hopefully pay enough attention to see through all the spinning done to try and make Obama look bad.

  3. I am pretty sure that he would be appalled. Especially since the number one killer of black men is black men.

  4. No he would not.  I'm sure he would despise all the little black WANNA-BEE gang bangers that disrespect MANKIND with their violent, selfish, hateful, immoral rap lyrics.

They perpetuate racism within their OWN culture while constantly playing the race card in their "nasty rap songs" and always pretending to be the victim!!

  5. i think  he'd be most disappointed in the black "leaders" such as Jackson, Sharpton and Wright.  They've made a bundle from the lies of victimization.  Thanks to them and others like them, there are a lot of people who feel the world owes them something.  These leaders don't push for individual civic responsibility or independence.  They perpetuate reliance on the government.  They don't care about equal treatment.  They want preferential treatment and reparations.  I could go on....

  6. First, Bush's speaking and speech-making is fine.  That is such an overly used "spin" in and of itself.  Get over it. Secondly, "spinning" is something that both parties are guilty of, not just people against Obama.  Take for example Obama linking McCain to Bush over and over again.  McCain opposed Bush at almost every turn.  That is/was a very inaccurate "spin" by Obama and dems in general.

  7. Hmmmm what would a dead person think about what has come of the world after they are gone... interesting.

I suppose it would depend on where he looked... if he looked at the wealthy African Americans that took the opportunities that were available to them he would be proud... but if he looked at the gangs and all the fatherless children (and to be honest the children of all colors in the inner cities) he would be horrified.

But why stop here... what would some of the other historical black heroes think of todays America?

Sojourner Truth? Harriet Tubman? Frederick Douglas? I honestly don't think they would like we have become.

  8. I agree with nothing you have said. First off, this campaign was not about race. In all honesty if it would have been about race, Obama would have never gotten the nomination. He would have been another niche candidate like a Jesse Jackson.

Second, I don't think Black Republicans will now somehow support Obama. I saw plenty of Black Republicans blasting him last night.

Third, OJ Simpson was acquitted of wrongdoing by a jury of his peers. It's time to get over it. If you don't like our judicial system then try and do something about it.

And lastly, MLK would have been very proud of the message of personal responsibility that Obama proposed last night. He said government can't do it all. It's up to parents, families, communities and ultimately yourself to do as much as you can and that the people in power have only the responsibility of making upward mobility possible. As long as it's possible then it's up to you to get there.

    ***

Obama won because he had the right message. In this political cycle "change" trumped "experience." There have been plenty of other examples where unlikely candidates win the nomination.

I think you're having a field day with the generalizations here. Sure there may have been some (certainly not many) Black Republicans that will be supporting Obama. But there are some White Republicans supporting him too. You're too focused on the race issue. From watching the convention coverage I remember no less than 3 Republicans giving speeches and guess what...They were all White.

As far as OJ goes, you have no idea whether or not he really did it. The only person who does is OJ Simpson. And if you really see the justice system as wrong then I'm thinking maybe Black people were happy that the imbalances in the justice system worked in their favor for a change.

And as I said before MLK would have loved the fact that we've come far enough along that a Black guy has the chance to be president. And he would have loved the message that people have the responsibility to lift themselves up as long as it is possible.

  9. Would George Washington be proud of what people like yourself have done to this nation?

    I think not.

  10. MLK was a great man. Too bad his kids did not turn out as good. We could sure use a man of his character today

  11. MLK will be shaking his head as most blacks are bitter and angry. Some only loved the country after given a 6-digit income and a change to the Presidency of a husband. crass.

  12. Stop putting people in a one size fits all box.

It is like saying all whites are racists.

That is why your premise is wrong from the start.

I'd say he would be very proud of some, to totally disgusted by others.

Also, your last line "Obama is nothing that MLK stood for" shows that your post is a partisan rant and you no more care about an answer then you are concerned if it is snowing in St Petersburg.

    Peace

    Jim
