Personally I would choose spanish or chinese as spanish is good for when when traveling and chinese is the most popular language in th world.

Yes, Portuguese is a good language to learn; it is spoken in several countries (Portugal, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Angola, etc). The Portuguese and Brazilian varieties of the language are basically the same but with consideable differences in pronunciation and, to a lesser extent,in vocabulary and idiom. The written language is much the same everywhere, however.

I'm not sure what you mean by "covers severalother languages"; Portuguese is Portuguese is Portuguese - if you want to learn other languages, you have to learn them separately.

i'm not really sure where it is useful.  and i don't know what you mean by 'it covers other languages' but if you learn spanish you will be able to understand written french.

yeah it would be good for brazil but the best language to learn is spanish because its widely spoken in europe and south america

No, because there is no business in Portugues, spanish is much more preferable.  If you know spanish, you´d have an understanding of portugues and italian

well it's a language which comes from Latin, just like Spanish, French, Italian and Romenian... so, there's no doubt whatsoever that if U learn Portuguese, u'll be able to learn the other languages more easily...
