Question:

Would Rocky Marciano last in UFC?

I know this sounds like an odd question, but with his signature awkward stiff fighting style and granite chin, would the Rock be a match for a fighter trained in MMA (submissions, wrestling, etc.)? He has endurance and heart with a one punch KO, but would his sluggish movements prove fatal?

  1. R. It aint is simple as 'having a little time to prepare for ground defense'. That don't mean shirt. Even when he gets in the clinch he'd probably be taken down and he'd be in a whole new world- a new fantastic point of view. Even standing up he'd take some leg kicks; which if they themselves didn't disable him, they'd probably get him away from his head defense and open him up in other ways. Back to that clinch- if he doesn't get taken down, but he's sitting there trying to throw uppercuts and body hooks and punches with his overhooks, what do you think the experienced mma fighter is gonna be doing? He's gonna bring out knees to the body, and ultimately to the chin.  Regardless of how hard Rocks chin is, he would go down to a 205lb knee, at least momentarily. When he's down, his boxing- and ultimately his entire skill base- is useless. Now he's mounted, getting elbowed in the face. Now what? Give him 2 years to train, what's the difference? No true wrestling, no bjj skill. He'd get dominated against a serious fighter- just like anyone else would.

  2. It would depend on how long he had to prepare and train for MMA I guess.

I'm sure if he had a year or two to work on avoiding take downs, or learning how to tie up on the ground I'm sure he could probably knock some heads around.

The MMA guys already have a little striking training, so its only fair the a boxer gets enough time to prepare for ground work and defense.

Its the same old argument that has been going on for years before MMA, except then they always wondered who would win between a WWF wrestler and a Pro Boxer. The usual answer was once the wrestler gets hold of the boxer that's all she wrote.

I think there is more to it then that, I like to use Chuck Liddel as an example.

Liddel was one of the best fighters to step in the Octagon, and he was not a ground man, he was a striker. But compared to a boxer he had very bad striking ability, It was sloppy, wide and telegraphed and he never offered up any angles. But he was still better then most other MMA strikers.

So why was it Liddel could win all his fights standing up and striking? Because all Liddel had to do was work on avoiding take downs by sprawling. Now Liddel would not have the reaction time of a boxer and he was able to avoid take downs from excellent ground guys like Ortiz.

So it stands to reason that a boxer with better speed, power, coordination, superior timing and leagues better striking ability if given the proper time to learn how to sprawl and avoid take downs could just strike a guy with tremendous speed and power from many different angles all the while waiting for the guy to try and take him down, avoid it and repeat process.

More then the take down I think the biggest obstacle for the boxer would be avoiding a kick. Or a MMA fighter that just keeps kicking him in the legs.

But again Boxers work in mili seconds, so there is a good chance they will see the kick coming before it has even left the hip.

When it comes down to it it depends on the two guys fighting, half this fight game is mental.

  3. imagine marciano or ali or tyson with fedor running as soon as the bell rings to put them on groud (which he do easily he fast and with sambo if yall know what sambo is tchniques he put them on the ground easily specially tyson and ali with these chicken legs) the rest of the fight i leave it in ur immagination;)

  4. Any comparison between boxers and UFC or other styles is apples to oranges.

It is impossible to say how anyone would do in a totally different format from the one in which they are trained.

This is true of any athlete moving from one sport to another sport.

Several big athletes have tried boxing and had the stuffing knocked out of them.

  5. Once again "Ruddiger" is saying stuff he has NO Idea about!

Chuck has Wrestled since he was a Kid!...he Wrestled in college too!...and Chuck Does have a Ground game! but his striking is so powerful that's what he uses most!...

and Chuck style is Hawaiian Kempo not western Boxing...they are different!...all that "bobbing and weaving" of western boxing is pointless in MMA!....

as for the question......Rocky Marciano would get destroyed in the Octagon.

  6. No.  Any world class, heavyweight MMA fighter would be able to get him to the mat.. then the fight would be over.

His opponent would have to be dumb enough to stand toe to toe with Rocky in order for Marciano to win. A smart MMA fighter would know that their best shot at winning would be to get Rocky to the ground.

  7. Rocky was pretty resilient for his time, he would probably loose the match. However, I dont believe it would be an easy win

  8. this is boxing... its the same if you asked if tiger woods would last at ufc or mma.

they are so diffrant its stupid  its the same old question boxing is boxing tennis is tennis mma is mma ufc is ufc...      would these mma fighters beat tiger at golf? NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.....

  9. With the way Rocky kept on landing punches and moved around the ring, I'd say yes! He was and still is to this day the hardest hitting fighter ever and the best conditioned. In all the fights I've ever watched of his I dont think 3 seconds went by in a round when he wasn't throwing a punch! He was said to have thrown anywhere from 90 to 120 punches in every round he ever fought in! That's unheard of these days! And to *** to this, Marciano could take any kind of punch and keep coming. Pain wasn't in his vocabulary!

  10. He has the KO power to finish fights early, he would need in takedown defense and sprawling. Once he masters those aspects he would become a very dangerous fighter

  11. if he learned some takedowns, sprawls, and submissions then yeah.

  12. No he is good in his own way but if he was still boxing he would need to stay in the Boxing Industry he is not tough enough to go against these fighters today in the UFC or American Fight League. Because them guys will not be boxing they will be fighting like being in a Street Fight anything goes.

  13. I don,t think much of MMA fighters they are not real fighters they are wrestlers with very poor hand and foot movement Rocky was and athlete so he could wrestle better than and average guy as for his hands and feet movement he had no equals saying all of that I know Rocky could stop a guy from chocking him out or holding on to one of his legs or one of his arms and making him tap out. One day a fight will happen between a MMA fighter and boxer and then we will see what happens . I already know what would happen a lot of rolling around on the ground just like MMA fighters do now . I would not be interested in seeing it.
