  1. I suppose Russia considered NATO in 1991-1998.

Then was NATO aggression against Yugoslavia, then were more other bloodthirsty US-NATO campaigns. And Russia don't want to be the part of such orgainization.

In contrast to US it is a peaceful country that respects international laws and UN.

  2. Russia refuses to join NATO, and NATO only excepts applications from states that want to join. There's some kind of diplomatic relationship between NATO and Russia though.

  3. Russia has observer status at NATO Headquarters. A Naval exercise was to be held this week in the Sea of Japan involving war ships of Russia, the U.S., Great Britain and France. All the ships were then going to proceed to Vladivostok for liberty this coming Saturday. The U.S. and Great Britain have cancelled their participation. Russia also participated with their armed forces in the NATO operation in Bosnia and the one in Kosovo.

  4. NATO would never consider accepting Russia for the simple

fact that Russia was the primary reason that's behind NATO.

Today Russia is more of a sidekick and other issues have

gotten more into focus. But the core of NATO is still common

defense. Most NATO states don't share deeply rooted common

interests with Russia. It's not that relations are generally bad

(Germany for example has quite good relations with Russia)

but the global interests of NATO and Russia differ quite a bit

independent of good or bad relations.

  5. Today's Russia with it's communist leadership will never. They see NATO as their main enemy in restoring former USSR "glory".

I doubt NATO would consider them either as they are.

Currently Russia has observer seat, wich they may loose due to their last invasion in Georgia.

GARISH - Considering that Russian troops conducted the most bloodthirsty campaign in1994 - 2004 in Chechnya where 300,000 Chechens and over 15,000 Russian military lost their lives, your statement about US bloodthirsty campaigns while Russia was all peaceful and respecting UN laws is at best laughable.

In case you forgot genocide is clearly against UN laws and just the list of the acts of genocide committed by Russian military against Chechen people is few pages long.

I can also remind you that Russia sponsored and participated in:

    Genocide of Ingush people along with north and south ossetins in 1992;

Genocide of Georgian, Greek and Armenian people in 1993.

So, who's bloodthirsty and who's got too much respect for UN laws is pretty clear and that's NOT Russia for sure.
