Would Federer have been as successful on the faster Wimbledon courts in the 1990s?

  1. I think he would of been even more dominant.  As for Federer that is tough I don't know if he would of done as well.  I didn't realized there was that much a difference.

I think Sampras has the best game for grass.  Even though the courts are slower, Sampras still has the awesome serve and because he attacks every point to the net, he doesn't have to run around so much and thus conserves energy.  It's no wonder if you look at the wimbledon champions in the 80's and 90's, they were mostly great serve and volleyers  (mcenroe, becker, cash, ivanesivic, sampras) ; today, that style has died out and its a shame because it is that style that can really challenge federer and nadal.  that is why I am interested to see how far marat safin can go because he is a big server that loves to come to the net.  I don't think its the court speed that determines federer's success.  he and nadal are the best at the baseline; i think to beat them, you have to have a different style (serve and volley)
