Question:

Would This Be Possible?? Acting???

I have always loved acting but living in Nevada there are not many opportunities available in terms of auditions and such. I am planning to go to college somewhere in Southern California but I want to know if it is possible to try and audition for parts while earning a degree. I'm not yet sure what I want to major in either. If so how would I go on to do that? I know there are a lot of scams and cons out there and I want to be safe. Also, if I hired a manager would I have time to take on an acting career while being in college? And if I wait till after I get my degree will I be to old? (I will be entering college as a 17 year old). What is your opinion on my situation? Thank you so much for any info.

  1. Maybe you could get connections by being an extra first.

San Diego has some facilities and I think they occasionally will need extras.

  3. You definately would not be too old if you decided to wait until after you earned your degree, in fact, that's what i would recomend.

Go to college and major in either film or theatre (depending on what your interest is)- perfect your craft, build up your resume, make some contacts and THEN start auditioning for professional work.

And if while you're in school, a good opportunity comes your way...well, then weigh your pros and cons and you can figure out what to do then.

But getting a good eduation is very important.

You mentioned hiring a manager. At as a 17 year old "unknown" you wouldn't really need a manager. If you were to try and get more than a few professional gigs, though, you may want to think about an agent.

Especially after you graduate (from college) you'll want to be represented by a good agency to help land major auditions.

    Good luck!

  4. Read David Mamet's book, True and False. He has some very uncommon thoughts on "Acting School".
