  1. We've been living in a denied recession for the past 3 years or more.  Where have you been?

  2. I believe that the British economy is already in terrible trouble as it is. There is a great deal that our govt is not telling us and you don't have to look any further than your own wallet to see how bad things really are. The Euro would not have made one iota's difference had we converted to it or not, and If we aren't in a recession already, I would be very - very surprised.

  3. The British economy is in trouble. It is stagnant.it is no more an enitity in world markets or trade. With high cost of production ,UK products can not compete with Japan,China or Korea.Unless UK joins Euro ,its future is bleak.

  4. No-one is going to scrap the pound. Forget it.

  5. Recession? That was probably unavoidable.

As we have seen with the recent rate increase of the ECB, inflation is more a risk now than a recession. The Anglosphere will feel the wrath of stagflation as the IMF projects US growth to fall to .5% and .6% in 2008 and 2009 respectively. The Bank of England and the Federal Reserve may have kept the financial system from collapsing after the fall of Northern Rock and Bear Stearns, but taming inflation once it is out of control is a very difficult task, and the only cure is a self-induced hard stop to the economy.

    Congratulations Eurozone, you win.
