I just turned 19 this year and my boyfriend just turned 20 this month. he's taking his mcat in august and as a "congrats you're done with your first mcat" i want to take him somewhere nice. but i feel like we're too young for a place like CUT, and am afraid that we might receive bad service since we look so young. so would a place like CUT be a good idea to take him?

  1. the other "Puck" restaurants don't compare

Great place, be prepared to spend

  2. been there.  bring a big credit card.

the place is a bit uppity, but they get all kinds of people there - from biz men to rich 90210 types.

just act normally and everything will be ok.

i think spago's would be a much better place, which is right around the corner from Cut.  Spago has lighter feel to it, and in my mind never been very uppity

  3. young people can eat at nice restaurants too!  you won't get bed service there. if you do, report it to the manager.

  4. Having taken the MCAT twice, I will say this: your boyfriend might be in no mood for big plans or anything remotely stressful. I couldn't even talk straight after that test (I took the 8 hour paper and pencil test). Seriously, that exam is both physically and mentally exhausting.

All I wanted to do after the MCAT was get wasted and sleep. You might be better off ordering in some good take out and opening a bottle of champagne. Or three bottles.

I think you oughtta save Cut  for another night. I remember what it was like getting crummy service in college (I now have my revenge 'cause I work for the health department, but that's another story altogether), and it might just be the last thing he needs after taking a rough exam.

Good luck. Hope he cracks a 33 and doesn't have to take the MCAT ever again.

  5. There is a Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Universals City Walk and it is not uppity at all.  Prices are somewhat decent too. You might look at California Pizza Kitchen.  There is one in the Beverly Center and I believe somewhere in BH.  About Wolfgang Pucks, although it is famous for inventing the California pizza, I feel their best dishes are the pasta plates and salads.  BTW, City Walk has a sky diving simulator which sounds like it would be fun for such an occasion.
