I'm thinking of making a site to teach people (hopefully kids mostly) how to stand up for themselves in internet arguments, and few kid's real life arguments. Example: a form they send in with an insult they recently received, then I give them a good comeback. I figure this will increase self-esteem and self confidence. I'm kind of a veteran in internet arguments. There will also be a "help yourself" forum, etc.

  1. I think that's a really great idea. I mean a lot of kids get picked on these days. I also have a problem with standing up for myself. It's like whenever I'm in that situation I just ignore it until it goes away but that happens to bring my self-esteem down. I think the best way people can learn to be more confident is experience. I'm going to college next week and I'm going to try my best to not have people walk all over me. Through experience comes wisdom.

You're idea is great...I think it'll definitely help out some people.

  2. I think that is a great idea. Kids these days need to know what to do if someone threatens them or anything like that. Kids are mean today and are teasing and bullying other children. This needs to stop and I think that you are the solution. I am sure that you will help a lot of kids understand what to do if something like that happens to them.

  3. Unfortunately, a lot of the problem with internet fighting is that there's so much of it and it degenerates so quickly into name calling.  If you're in a fight worth winning with someone, you should be able to do so by arguing your points intelligently and with wit rather than coming up with a superior put down.  Really, why bother with insults to begin with?  "Oh no, some kid from Vancouver I've never met before thinks I'm a butthead!  Now I'll never be able to sleep at night!"  Kids should be taught that it's about picking your battles for their worth, not being able to deliver the most stinging insult.

That being said, I'm sure there are people out there who would love a forum to insult back and forth on.  Keep in mind that that's probably what this will turn into if you go forward with it;  not a bunch of kids building confidence, but a bunch of snarky teenagers puffing out their chests over who can be the nastiest.  Even the best intentions don't go as planned, so if you go ahead with this, make sure you moderate it so it doesn't turn into something you don't want.
